Summary from Goodreads:
On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother-to-be and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore.
Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?
Thoughts:
I was so excited to read this novel. Honestly, you have no idea how much I wanted to read a book like this. I adore foreign places. The aspect of accents and the customs and slang .. it completely fascinates me. Well, anything foreign to the US or the states, as some call it. When I found where this novel would be set, I knew I had to get it for myself and read it. Guys, this book did not disappoint, at all. The author's writing brought the place to life that I felt like packing my bags and moving there. Seriously, I felt as though the main character was me and boy, would I not mind that. A beautiful place filled with crazy yet awesome feasts and places and the people. Plus, let's not forget the love interest! ;D This book was one I devoured and was sad to let go in the end but ended up grinning like a weirdo when I found out it was part of a series. ^-^
Characters:
Characters, characters. Boy, the characters were all different in their own fun and unusual way. The main character, Cat, was so funny and her story and adventure through this beautiful city was so fun to follow! I found myself grinning and marveling at the scenery along with her and swooning yet trying not to roll my eyes at the love interest. Now, the love interest. Did anyone here read Anna and The French Kiss? *looks around* did you happen to like St. Clair? ;D Well, the main interest in this story doesn't beat him in any level but he sure does give him a run for his good looks and funny and swoon worthy personality and charisma. I really like the development of all the characters. Especially with the daughter and father relationship not to mention the love interest. ;D
Romance:
Ok, seriously. Can I move to Italy? Or France? Or any place where the setting is as romantic and the people and the romance.. *trails off* The romance in this novel was adorable. Just great and amazing. You know the warm feeling you get in some books because of the swoon worthy romance? Yup, this book had that. At least, for me it did. I couldn't stop grinning and rolling my eyes at adorable scenes between the main character and the love interest. It was all just too cute. ^o^
Ending:
When the novel was nearing the end for me, I was in my room, gaping at my nook and wishing everything would be resolved and there would be a happy ending, because, let's admit it, we all like happy endings. Well, this book was killing me in the ending. Not in a I hate this book, let's burn it sort of way, ( which I would never do >.< ) but more of a is this really happening? sort of way. I couldn't tear my eyes away from my nook and I was so relieved when a new character was introduced and I could stop feeling bad. I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens next! :D
Recommendation:
I would recommend this novel to fans of Stephenie Perkin's work or any contemporary romance fans. Or anyone who loves detailed writing that makes you feel as though you were one of the characters & of course, fans of Italy like yours truly. ^-^
First Sentence:
"I'm trapped."

  1. Stephanie Perkins creates great characters that I fangirl over, so I'm really excited that you said that it was similar! I love historical novels at the same time. I'll check this one out!
